Our 6-week Rethink Your Carbs Challenge is officially over, and so many of you have worked toward making healthier decisions and improving your health and well-being.
It’s recommended to eat five or more servings of fruits and vegetables every day. In this challenge, participants were tasked to increase their fruit and vegetable intake in fun and creative ways.
More than 200 individuals participated in 11 different groups. Together, more than 21,000 servings of fruits and vegetables were eaten! But one group committed to upping their fruit and vegetable intake more than the rest: Frederick Health.
The Frederick Health group ate a total of 19,447 servings—roughly 463 servings of fruits and vegetables each day. Frederick Health’s top participant was Juliet Pearrell, eating 728 servings over just six weeks. That’s more than 121 servings per week, or 17 servings per day. Now that’s commitment to eating well!
Among the results, apples were a crowd favorite, being shared as the favorite fruit or vegetable 97 times. Oranges came in second, shared as a favorite 69 times. Altogether, challengers shared their favorite fruit or vegetable 867 times, with submissions ranging from broccoli to yellow dragon fruit. Some of the most exotic submissions were white strawberries, hearts of palm, and jicama.
Congratulations to everyone who participated in the Rethink Your Carbs Challenge. You improved your diet by learning about and reading nutrition facts labels, paying attention to serving sizes, evaluating your diet, adding color to your plate, sipping smarter, and more.
Even though the challenge is now over, you can take what you’ve learned and continue to build healthy habits and rethink your carbs every day.
Stay tuned for more LiveWell Frederick challenges and events to improve your health and well-being!
